What’s New in Rhino RETRÔ II? 6 Key Upgrades From the Inside Out

RETRÔ has always been about reimagining the character of traditional cue design through modern carbon fiber technology. With Rhino RETRÔ II, that philosophy remains unchanged, but almost everything behind the playing experience has been refined.

Built on the foundation of the original collection, RETRÔ II has been carefully re-engineered across every key area, from carbon fiber material and shaft construction to tip performance, ferrule strength, leather wrap, finishing quality, and overall production control. Together, these upgrades create a more refined, consistent, and premium playing experience while preserving the timeless character that defines RETRÔ.

RETRÔ II also marks an important milestone for Rhino. As the first collection produced entirely at our new manufacturing facility, it represents a new stage in our manufacturing capabilities and reflects our long-term commitment to raising the standards of performance, quality, and craftsmanship.

Here are the six key upgrades that define the Rhino RETRÔ II.

1. Premium Japanese Carbon Fiber & Tuned Carbon Construction

A carbon fiber pool cue is only as consistent as the structure behind it. For RETRÔ II, Rhino upgraded the carbon construction using premium Japanese carbon fiber, combined with a carefully tuned carbon layup developed to achieve greater structural consistency and long-term stability.

Through continued R&D, Rhino has refined this construction to create a more controlled and repeatable platform for RETRÔ II. The result is the durability players expect from carbon fiber, together with the consistency required for dependable performance over time.

Key benefits: greater structural consistency, reliable performance, and a cue built to last.

2. Latest Upgraded 30-Inch Super Low-Deflection Rhino Shaft

RETRÔ II features the latest evolution of the Rhino Carbon Shaft, refined to deliver greater stability, lower deflection, better control, and a more consistent playing experience.

At approximately 30 inches in total length and featuring a smooth Pro Taper, the shaft provides comfortable reach and a natural stroke while maintaining the low-deflection performance expected from Rhino carbon technology.

The construction has also been further refined for improved straightness, roundness consistency, and overall production uniformity. Rather than changing the playing character of the Rhino shaft, the objective was to make that experience even more precise and dependable from cue to cue.

Key benefits: low deflection, precise cue-ball control, stable power delivery, and greater accuracy.

3. Next-Generation TIME Tip

The connection between the cue and the cue ball happens across an extremely small contact point, making the tip one of the most influential components in the entire match.

RETRÔ II introduces the next-generation TIME Tip, available in 11.8 mm and 12.5 mm configurations. Developed to work together with the upgraded Rhino carbon shaft, the new tip focuses on efficient energy transfer and clear, responsive feedback at impact.

The objective is not simply to make the tip harder or softer. It is to achieve a balanced interaction between the tip and shaft so that the player receives a controlled, confident response through different speeds and spin conditions.

Key benefits: efficient energy transfer, responsive feedback, and a more connected feel at impact.

4. Upgraded Reinforced Ferrule

The ferrule may be a small component, but it plays an important role in protecting the front end of the shaft from repeated impact.

For RETRÔ II, the ferrule construction has been upgraded with additional reinforcement to improve strength and long-term durability. This refinement helps create a more robust front-end structure while maintaining the clean appearance of the Rhino carbon shaft.

It is a small visual change, but an important structural upgrade.

Key benefits: reinforced strength and extended durability where repeated impact matters most.

5. Premium Cowhide Leather Wrap with Embossed Lizard Texture

RETRÔ II continues the collection's classic design philosophy with an upgraded premium cowhide leather wrap featuring an embossed lizard texture.

The material was selected to provide a refined appearance, comfortable feel, and confident grip in hands. Its distinctive texture also complements the wood-inspired character of the collection, creating a more premium finish across all three RETRÔ II designs.

It brings together the two ideas at the heart of RETRÔ: timeless cue aesthetics and modern performance.

Key benefits: premium comfort, confident grip, and a more refined finish.

6. Strict Quality Control & Optimized Playing Weight

The final upgrade goes beyond any single component. With RETRÔ II, Rhino has strengthened quality control across the complete manufacturing process to achieve greater consistency from cue to cue. Each cue undergoes careful inspection across key areas, including shaft straightness and roundness, tip specifications, surface and finishing quality, joint fit and precision, and weight accuracy.

Particular attention is also given to weight and balance. RETRÔ II comes with a factory-standard playing weight of approximately 19–19.3 oz, while the cue weighs approximately 18 oz ± 0.3 oz without the weight bolt installed. The adjustable weight system gives players greater flexibility to fine-tune both overall weight and balance point according to their preferred playing feel.

RETRÔ II is also the first collection produced entirely at our new 10,000-square-meter manufacturing facility in Vietnam, supported by more than 300 skilled craftsmen and employees. The new facility allows Rhino to maintain tighter production control and more consistent quality standards throughout every stage of manufacturing.

Key benefits: Reliable consistency, precise weight control, and greater flexibility to customize weight and balance.

Classic Character, Re-Engineered for Today

Despite everything that has changed, the philosophy behind RETRÔ remains intact.

The collection was created to honor the timeless character of traditional cue craftsmanship while embracing what modern carbon fiber technology makes possible. RETRÔ II takes that idea further, preserving its distinctive wood-inspired aesthetic while introducing a more advanced construction, more refined components, and tighter production standards underneath.

Available in Cocobolo, Ebony, and Bocote-inspired designs, each RETRÔ II has its own visual personality while sharing the same upgraded performance platform.

The result is not a departure from RETRÔ I. It is an evolution of what RETRÔ was always meant to be.

Rhino Retrô II: More Than a New Cue—A New Chapter for Rhino

RETRÔ II brings together everything this collection has always stood for: timeless character, modern carbon performance, and a commitment to continuous improvement. But this generation also represents something more. From upgraded materials and engineering to tighter production standards at our new manufacturing facility, it reflects how Rhino continues to evolve not only our products, but the way we build them.

For us, RETRÔ II is more than the next generation of a successful collection. It is an important milestone in Rhino's journey—and another step forward in our commitment to building world-class carbon fiber cues for players around the world.
